1. e4 { B01: Scandinavian Defence } 1... d5 2. Nc3 d4 3. Nce2 e5 4. Nf3 Bd6 5. Ng3 Be6 6. Bb5+ Nd7 7. O-O c6 { This Bishop is a problem for white. He can entomb
the Bishop on e2, or lose the Bishop pair. } 8. Ba4 Nc5 9. Bb3 Nxb3 10. axb3 f6 { Consolidates g5 and over-protects e5. With the center secure, black can
delay castling. In this line, black should avoid castling on the King side,
because white is better prepared to launch an attack on that side. } 11. d3 Ne7 12. c3 Bc5 $6 { Asking for and getting 13. b4. } 13. b4 Bb6 14. c4 $2 { With
this move, white releases the tension on the center allowing black to remain
uncastled. Black can now turn his attention to attacking the King side.
Tricky business given white's strong position there. } 14... Qd7 15. Nd2 { White
prepares his own King side initiative with f2-f4-f5 now that other areas of
the board are passive. } 15... h5 $5 { Now if white captures Nxh5, then black can use
the open h-file for his attack. } 16. Re1 { In hind sight, white should have
played the courageous 16. Nxh5. Black would get the worst of it after 16...
Bg4? 17. Nxg7+ Kf7 18. f3. } 16... h4 17. Ngf1 g5 18. Nb3 Ng6 19. Nc5 Bxc5 20. bxc5 Nf4 21. Bxf4 gxf4 22. f3 Rg8 { Black's attack rages with natural moves. } 23. Re2 Qg7 24. Qd2 Bh3 { Will g2 fall? Not with this move. 24... h3 was more
stressing. } 25. b4 Bd7 26. Qb2 a6 27. Nd2 h3 28. Nb3 Kf7 29. Na5 Rab8 30. Rb1 Qh7 { Black angles for an attack on f3. White should play 31. Rf2 now. } 31. Kh1 $2 Qh5 32.
