Our Purpose
To provide all members of the Huntsville (Alabama, USA) area community an opportunity
to meet and play chess in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
The club offers weekly meetings, instruction, tournaments, and special events for players of all skill levels.
We are a non-profit organization.
Here are the benefits Huntsville Chess Club (HCC) members enjoy:
- The HCC is open to players of all ages and skill levels.
- The HCC meets weekly where members can socialize and play
chess.
- HCC members receive an annual calendar packed with chess tournaments and activities.
- The HCC offers assistance in organizing car pools and accommodations
at area tournaments.
- The HCC encourages scholastic participation by organizing
special events like local scholastic tournaments, chess camps,
and school clubs.
- The HCC sponsors United States Chess Federation rated tournaments
like the Huntsville Chess Championship, the Space City Open, Huntsville
Blitz Championship, and frequent "tornado" 1-day weekend
tournaments.
- HCC members receive and provide free individual instruction
for beginners and free group study and game analysis programs
for intermediate and advanced players.
- The HCC sponsors computer chess events to test man and machine.
- HCC members have the honor of being part of the best chess
club in Alabama. Our club has three State Champions! The average
rating of the top five players is high Expert class.
HCC members help administrate and direct local tournaments, serve
as club officers, teach chess at local schools, coordinate attendance
at area tournaments, promote chess, etc. The list is endless,
the need is great, the reward is noble.
