Notes by Don Maddox

I'm writing a book on Van Geet's, a truly sophisticated transpositional repertoire. Note in this tournament I ended up playing a Pirc, a Vienna Gambit, and a Sicilian from the white side starting with 1 c3. I achieved more than reasonable positions in two games. In this game, I was outplayed between Moves 33-36, essentially coasting while my opponent was still trying to find a way to win. Again, an uncooperative opponent - a gracious winner, and an important lesson. It's also important to note that D'Souza defended this position superbly - one of the reasons I lost the game is that he gave me nothing substantial to work with out of the opening.
